How it works

1

Upload your photo

Drag & drop or select any JPG, PNG, or WebP image. Your photo stays on your device — nothing is sent to a server.

2

Choose your settings

Pick how many stitches wide and how many colours. More stitches = more detail. More colours = truer to the original.

3

Get your pattern

Hit Convert and get a grid pattern with real DMC colour codes, a fabric size estimate, and a downloadable PNG.

Tips for best results

  • Photos with clear subjects and good contrast convert best — portraits, pets, simple landscapes.
  • Start with 8 colours and 80 stitches wide, then increase both for more detail.
  • The Aida count setting changes your finished fabric size — not sure which count to use? Aida counts explained has a plain-English breakdown of 11, 14, 16, and 18-count.
  • If colours look off, hit Re-convert — k-means starts randomly so a second run often gives better results.
  • Download the pattern PNG and print at 100% scale — each grid square is one stitch. New to cross stitch? The beginner guide walks you through everything from threading a needle to finishing your first piece.

What to do after you have your pattern

The pattern creator gives you the design and DMC colour codes. Here are the next practical steps before you start stitching:

📐

Work out your fabric size

Take the stitch count from the pattern and plug it into the fabric calculator to find out exactly how much Aida to buy — including border and hoop allowance.

🧵

Calculate how many skeins

The palette shows estimated skeins per colour, but if you want a detailed breakdown with cost, the skein calculator handles multi-colour projects with a waste buffer.

Find the right hoop size

Once you know your fabric dimensions, the hoop calculator recommends the right hoop size with a visual size comparison.

Estimate your project time

Use the stitch count from your pattern to get a realistic hours and days estimate — with a finish date if you have a deadline.
